5 Common Mistakes When Burning Luxury Candles (and How to Avoid Them)
Burning a luxury scented candle isn't something you just do. Proper care not only ensures a longer lifespan, but also a richer fragrance and safe use. Yet, small mistakes are often made that significantly reduce the quality of the candle—and the fragrance experience.
At Mari-Ve, we believe every candle moment deserves a touch of refinement. That's why we're sharing five common mistakes and how to easily avoid them.
1. Do not cut the fuse
One of the most common mistakes: using a wick that's too long. This causes a large flame, black smoke, and even soot buildup on the rim of the glass. In addition, the wax burns too quickly and unevenly.
Trim your wick back to about 0.5 cm before each use. This will help your candle burn more smoothly, cleanly, and evenly.
2. Burning the candle too short
If you extinguish a candle after a few minutes, the wax doesn't have enough time to melt completely. This causes tunneling: a deep hole in the center that makes it difficult to relight the candle.
Leave your candle burning for at least 2 to 3 hours each time it burns, so that the surface becomes completely liquid.
3. Burning too long
On the other hand, a candle can also burn too long. Burning for more than four hours causes the wax to overheat, resulting in an unstable flame and accelerated combustion.
Ideally, extinguish it after 3 to 4 hours: this way your candle will retain its scent and shape.
4. Blow out instead of extinguish
Blowing out a candle often creates smoke, an unpleasant odor, and wobbly residue in the wax. It's best to use a candle snuffer to elegantly extinguish the flame without creating smoke.
A properly extinguished candle remains more beautiful and fragrant.
5. Forgetting that a candle also requires maintenance
A scented candle is a product of craftsmanship and fragrance technology – and therefore requires careful attention. Think about keeping the rim clean, straightening the wick after burning, and regularly checking the burn time.
With small steps you can extend the life of your candle and ensure every fragrance experience remains optimal.
Give your candle the care it deserves
A Mari-Ve scented candle is made to be enjoyed—time and time again. By avoiding these five mistakes, you'll not only maintain the quality of your candle but also the sense of tranquility and luxury it brings to your home.
