How to get the most out of your scented candle – 6 essential tips from Mari-Ve
Burning a scented candle seems simple, but do you truly want to enjoy a long-lasting fragrance experience without waste? Then there are a few key habits that will make all the difference. With these practical and luxurious tips from Mari-Ve, you'll ensure perfect combustion, optimal fragrance results, and sustainable candle care.
Whether you're a seasoned candle enthusiast or have just lit your first luxurious soy wax candle, these are the essentials for burning your scented candle correctly.
1. Trim the candle wick before each use
A common mistake is using a wick that's too long. Trim your wick to 0.5 cm before each use. This creates a smaller, more stable flame and prevents black soot, crackling noises, or smoke. A short wick not only makes your candle burn more evenly but also more evenly.
Preferably use a wick trimmer. This makes maintenance just as precise as the candle itself.
Our elegant candle trimmers ensure a perfect flame – stylish and functional.

2. Prevent tunneling: let your candle melt completely the first time
Let your candle burn for at least 2 to 3 hours the first time. This will melt the entire surface, all the way to the edges, and prevent the common problem of tunneling, which creates a deep hole and leaves a lot of wax unused.
This ensures even candle combustion and a maximum lifespan.
3. Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time
Burning a scented candle for too long will overheat the wax, which can cause fragrance loss and wick distortion. Limit each burn to 3 to 4 hours. Then allow the candle to cool and the wax to harden again.
4. Use a candle snuffer for a neat finish
Don't blow out your candle like you would a birthday candle – that creates smoke and residual odor. Use a candle snuffer or gently blow over the flame to extinguish it without creating smoke. This keeps your room fresh and your wick intact.
5. Ensure a draft-free location
Place your candle on a stable, flat surface, away from windows, ventilation, or drafts. A flickering flame means the wax is melting unevenly, which affects both the fragrance distribution and the lifespan of your candle.
6. Refill your Mari-Ve candle holder – choose sustainable luxury
